There is nothing wrong with paying your best players top dollar to keep them. Star players are what separate the contenders from the pack. You can’t compete for a championship without them.
But it is risky business. NFL teams invest millions of dollars and hundreds of hours in research and study in an effort to develop a plan as to how to spend their cap money. Yet despite all of that preparation, much of their success boils down to a couple of things over which they have limited or no control.
