Green Bay’s selection of quarterback Sean Clifford in the fifth round of the recent NFL draft has been almost universally panned by reporters and scouts alike. Projected by several draft gurus to be an undrafted free agent, the Penn State signal caller was taken by Brian Gutekunst after a quarterback run began late in the fourth round and extended into the fifth.
Fans went ballistic. TV commentators looked puzzled. One writer sent a text to a scout asking his opinion of Clifford as a fifth round pick. The response was a laughing emoji. Clifford had not been invited to the NFL combine.
