Sterling Sharpe, whose records were matched by Davante Adams, was a fascinating part of Packers history

"Pick a member of the Green Bay Packers who you thought of as indestructible," Milwaukee Journal columnist Michael Bauman wrote in late 1994. "Sterling Sharpe may not be the only answer, but he certainly is the most prominent one."

Sharpe has been a name on the lips of Packers fans in recent weeks with current receiver Davante Adams in hot pursuit of Sharpe's longstanding records. Adams officially bypassed Sharpe's 1993 franchise record of 112 receptions in a single season when he finished the year with 115, and Adams tied Sharpe's 1994 mark of 18 touchdown catches.

When Bauman wrote that passage about Sharpe, news had just broken that the neck injury Sharpe had sustained late in the season was not only going to keep him out for the forthcoming NFL playoffs, but represented a serious threat to his standout career.
