The Green Bay Packers made a bit of a surprising move when they drafted Penn State’s Sean Clifford in the fifth round of the NFL draft, but they clearly have a vision and expectation for Clifford to fulfill a big role on the roster right away.
Clifford is jumping into an immediate battle to be the primary backup to starting quarterback Jordan Love, now that the Packers have shipped Aaron Rodgers off to the New York Jets in a big pre-draft trade. Clifford will do battle with former Purdue and LSU quarterback Danny Etling, who has been back and forth between the practice squad of the Packers for the last couple of seasons.
