Rep. David Steffen ends effort to dissolve Lambeau Field stadium district

GREEN BAY – Rep. David Steffen has ended his effort to dissolve the Green Bay/Brown County Professional Football Stadium District.

The Howard Republican on Monday said he reached an agreement with the district for improved oversight and financial transparency.

Steffen announced in November that he would introduce legislation to disband the district, which oversees the Green Bay Packers' use of Lambeau Field. The Packers, the stadium district board and the city of Green Bay are parties in the Lambeau Field lease.

In Steffen's interpretation, the stadium board has outlived its legislative purpose, which he said was limited to overseeing the construction costs related to Lambeau Field's 2003 renovation, ensuring the bonds were properly paid and overseeing the sales tax through its duration.
