Packers to honor early radio voice Winnie

Decades before Wayne Larrivee, Jim Irwin, or Ted Moore, Russ Winnie was the radio voice of the Green Bay Packers.

From 1929 through 1946, Winnie called Packers games when Green Bay won six National Football League championships under team founder, player, and head coach Earl "Curly" Lambeau. Winnie was responsible for helping build the team's fan base throughout the state as the league's smallest franchise became a league powerhouse.

Last week, the Packers Hall of Fame announced Winnie and former left tackle Chad Clifton and safety Nick Collins will be inducted at the 46th annual Hall of Fame Induction Banquet on July 23 in Green Bay.
