The Packers have been one of the best teams at looking after their salary cap in recent years. That was much easier with Ted Thompson as general manager as he rarely made a big splash in free agency, unless it was to re-sign a player already on the roster.
But new general manager Brian Gutekunst has been willing to roll the dice and make a couple of riskier moves in free agency, as the potential reward could be another championship while Aaron Rodgers is in his prime. By not doing so, the Packers could be a few players away and fall short, as they so often have.
