Packers release Knile Davis

With Eddie Lacy and James Starks sidelined with injuries, the Green Bay Packers have considered multiple ways of manufacturing a running game. However, those plans no longer involve Knile Davis, who the team released Monday, according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.

Davis joined the Packers two weeks ago when general manager Ted Thompson made the surprising decision to aquire him for the cost of a conditional late-round pick. Davis did not play much in his first game, however, and he saw even less action on Sunday against the Atlanta Falcons.

With so little depth at the position — the Packers have only Don Jackson available among the full-time tailbacks — Davis’ release comes as a bit of a surprise.
