The streak is over.
With the 23rd pick in the 2025 NFL Draft, the Green Bay Packers selected wide receiver Matthew Golden from Texas. It marked the first time since 2002 that the Packers drafted a wide receiver in the first round. Given the long-term outlook of Green Bay’s receiving corps, the decision to break the streak and invest in a top-tier wideout was a logical step toward strengthening the offense.
Golden joins a receiver corps without a clear number-one option, giving him the chance to claim that spot by the end of the 2025 season. His podium moment after being drafted was one of the most exciting of Day 1, and he is eager to show Jordan Love that he can be a reliable target on the field.
