Packers designate Jason Spriggs to return from IR

GREEN BAY – The Packers have used one of their two designations to return from injured reserve on offensive tackle Jason Spriggs, who practiced with the team Thursday.

A second-round pick in 2016, Spriggs was placed on IR Sept. 21 after injuring his hamstring in the Packers’ regular-season opener against the Seattle Seahawks.

Under the designation rules, a player placed on injured reserve after the start of the regular season is eligible to practice after six weeks and play after eight.

Since the NFL began allowing players to return off injured reserve, the Packers have used the designation on running back Cedric Benson (2012), receiver Randall Cobb (2013), offensive lineman JC Tretter (2014), tight end Andrew Quarless (2015) and cornerback Makinton Dorleant (2016).
