A mild surprise arose around Acme Packing Company on Friday morning when perusing the roster listed on the Green Bay Packers’ website. The four new free agent signings are officially listed there — though without jersey numbers for the time being — but farther down the list was a notable name showing up in an unexpected place.
The name is Tony Brown, the young cornerback whom the Packers plucked from the Chargers for the practice squad after training camp cuts came down. Brown did not show up on APC’s free-agent lists all offseason because he was listed by NFL contract sites (such as Over the Cap) as being under contract through 2019.
