In 2020, the Packers had the Smith Brothers signed and still used their first-round pick on edge rusher Rashan Gary. If they valued the position in 2020, they should be more focused on edge rusher in this 2023 draft. With Za’Darius Smith now an enemy wearing purple, unless they cut him as requested, and Rashan Gary probably starting the season on IR, the need for an edge rusher is urgent and obvious.
Potentially game changing edge rushers are always taken high in the draft. Gary was available for the Packers at 12 because his sack numbers at Michigan did not match those of a true outside rusher.
