Michael Arace: It has been a tough year of cathedral closings for ardent sports superfans

For many, sports are a part of the rhythm of life — a football game and then church, or vice-versa, or maybe church waits until Monday. For some, sports are the calling itself. For superfans, the stadium is their cathedral.

Their cathedrals have been largely dark since the coronavirus pandemic hit last year. Considering that 490,000 (and counting) American lives have been lost to the virus, sacrificing live sports is not a big deal, not in the grand scheme of things. And yet ...
