Matthew Golden pick surprises, delights Green Bay Packers fans on first day of NFL draft

Before Green Bay Packers President and CEO Mark Murphy announced the team's first draft pick in the 2025 NFL Draft, fans knew what was coming and started cheering and hooting and hollering.

Murphy telegraphed his punch, saying the pick was something the Packers hadn't done since 2002, and everyone then knew that receiver Matthew Golden of the University of Texas was going to be the 23rd selection in the draft, held for the first time at Lambeau Field. Packers fans were thrilled, and the smiles were still on their faces as they began leaving the stadium in droves with nine more picks to go.
