Matt LaFleur Reflects On One Of His Toughest Decisions As Packers Head Coach

Matt LaFleur has experienced highs and lows throughout his six seasons as the Green Bay Packers head coach. Beginning with three consecutive 13-win seasons and guiding the youngest roster in the NFL since the 1970s to the playoffs, LaFleur also faced postseason disappointments, including falling one game short of the Super Bowl in back-to-back years.

Still, one of the most challenging parts of this business is watching people lose their jobs, especially those you’ve grown close to. It’s a harsh reality in the NFL, where relationships often take a backseat to the pressure to win.

Last year, LaFleur had to make the tough call to fire his close friend, defensive coordinator Joe Barry.
