The Green Bay Packers and Detroit Lions played in the first Monday Night Football game in NFL history. That contest, a 14-10 Packers victory in 1964, set the stage for ABC to start airing games on weeknights six years later.
In recent years, however, the two teams have become frequent Monday night opponents. Tonight’s game will be the third Monday Night Football game between these NFC North rivals in the past five years, with ESPN picking up the Lambeau Field game every other year. The 2017 edition saw the Packers drop a 30-17 decision with Aaron Rodgers injured and Brett Hundley starting, while in 2019 the Packers won 23-22 on a last-second Mason Crosby field goal.
