Matt LaFleur made a gutsy call bringing Mike Pettine back for another year. LaFleur had no ties to Pettine prior to arriving in Green Bay, and no one would have blamed him if he decided to go a different direction. However, LaFleur stuck by his defensive coordinator, even when he had plenty of reasons to part ways. A decision that still feels questionable six months later.
Less than a month after seeing the defense get gouged for 285 rushing yards by the San Francisco 49ers, LaFleur made the call to stick with Pettine for another year. Pettine is widely considered a player’s coach who as won over the locker room and clearly the coaching staff as well.
