Tramon Williams came to the Green Bay Packers as an undrafted, street free agent late in the 2006 season. For the next nine months, Williams turned heads and earned a spot on the Packers’ roster the follow summer.
Sam Shields did the same thing three summers later. In the years since, others such as John Kuhn, Evan Dietrich-Smith and Lane Taylor have come out of nowhere to win roster spots and eventually become key contributors.
That’s unlikely to happen as often this summer.
Today, the Packers — and the rest of the NFL — live in a virtual world.
