Green Bay Packers game vs. Washington Commanders on 9/11 evokes memories of 2001 game

Nearly 25 years later, Chris Gizzi remains an indelible component of NFL lore, and not for anything he did in his 23 career games at linebacker.

The former Green Bay Packers strength and conditioning coach was a reserve linebacker on the 2001 Green Bay team, but more importantly a graduate of the Air Force Academy and Air Force reservist. That made him the perfect person to carry an American flag onto the field Sept. 24, 2001, the first Monday Night Football game since the enormously tragic terrorist attacks 13 days earlier. The moment lives on permanently.
