The Green Bay Packers made minor gains on defense in 2019 because they made big plays at critical moments.
The Packers ranked just 18th in yards allowed per game (352.6) and were an ugly 23rd against the run (120.1). But Green Bay was third in interceptions (17), seventh in total turnovers (25) and 11th in red zone defense (53.70%).
Therefore, the Packers jumped to ninth in scoring defense (19.6) after ranking 22nd in 2018 (25.0).
Green Bay largely ignored defense in last month’s draft, using its first three picks on offensive players.
