The last time a Week 1 game was played on a Friday night was on Sept. 18, 1970, when the Los Angeles Rams hosted the St. Louis Cardinals.
ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. — For the first time since 1970, the NFL will play on a Friday night on its opening weekend.
The NFL has announced that the Philadelphia Eagles and Green Bay Packers will play their Week 1 game in Sao Paulo on Friday, Sept. 6. That game will be the first of five international games in 2024, but the only one not in Europe.
"We're looking forward to being a part of this historic matchup against the Eagles in Sao Paulo," Packers president and CEO Mark Murphy said in a statement.
