Dementia robs Packers great Willie Wood of Super Bowl I memory

Willie Wood made the play that broke open Super Bowl I, yet the Hall of Fame safety does not remember anything about it, according to the New York Times.

The 79-year-old former Green Bay Packers star suffers from dementia and is in an assistant living facility in Washington, D.C.

According to the story, Wood has no recollection about playing in the first Super Bowl or even playing in the NFL. He’s wheel-chair bound following neck, hip and knee surgeries.

Wood was an eight-time Pro Bowl selection and a five-time member of the NFL’s All-Pro team during his career from 1960-71.
