Cody Mandell trying to get a handle on Packers' punting competition

Green Bay — Easily obscured by the more prominent story lines of training camp — a.k.a. injuries, Clay Matthews, Ty Montgomery and the cornerbacks — is an interesting subplot involving a pair of punters, and more specifically their hands.

The scenario was born on Jan. 26, 2015, when the Green Pay Packers signed Cody Mandell, an undrafted punter who spent the 2014 preseason in training camp with the Dallas Cowboys. Mandell, 23, would challenge incumbent Tim Masthay, who last season turned in the lowest net punting average of his five seasons in Green Bay.

Flash forward and the punters continue battling in the traditional sense, kicking against each other in training camp for the job described by their position title.
