Ahmad Gardner was born and raised in the Detroit area. Gardner was given the nickname “Sauce” at age 6 by his football coach because of his affinity for dipping sauce and has since embraced the name as his alter ego. Sauce attended Martin Luther King High School in Detroit, leading his team to a state championship and earning first-team All-State honors.
