After a year of pandemic, Green Bay Packers, fans, businesses looking ahead to 'normal'

GREEN BAY - It started with two weeks. Then it was two months. Then it just kept going, and a year later, it's not done yet.

On March 12, 2020, the Green Bay Packers announced they would close Lambeau Field the next day for two weeks because of the coronavirus pandemic. A year later, Lambeau Field and Titletown District are open again, but with all the restrictions we've come to know, including mask wearing, social distancing and a prohibition on large — or even small — gatherings.

“This is a decision we made with all due consideration, and we feel it is an important step to take in helping mitigate the spread of the virus," Packers President and CEO Mark Murphy said in announcing the closing last year, probably not realizing how many more times over the next 12 months he'd repeat a variation of that message.
