The NFL saw one of its best edge rushers get traded from the league’s most popular and wealthiest franchise. Micah Parsons, after posting a lengthy message on social media about his frustration with the Dallas Cowboys not handing him a lucrative contract extension, wound up getting exactly what he wanted.
Parsons signed a four-year, $186 million deal with the Green Bay Packers, with an AAV of $46.5 million. This contract has made the 26-year-old linebacker/defensive end the highest-paid player at his position. He joins T.J. Watt and Myles Garrett as the only other edge rushers making at least $40 million per year.
Now, Green Bay has an elite defensive front-seven on its roster. There are four former first-round draft picks, including Parsons. He joins Rashan Gary, Devonte Wyatt, and Quay Walker to help the Packers compete in a loaded NFC North division.
Following the breaking news of Parsons’ trade from Dallas to Green Bay, the Packers’ Super Bowl LX odds rocketed up from +2200 to their current price available at +1200. The team’s win total prop, odds to win the NFC, and odds to win the NFC North also shortened substantially.
Parsons’ arrival at Lambeau Field means the Green Bay Packers are now the fifth betting favorite to win the Super Bowl in 2025. The only other NFC team with shorter odds in this futures market is the Philadelphia Eagles at +700.

Injuries did derail Parsons’ availability with Dallas in 2024. He’s reportedly dealing with a sprain in his back. An epidural injection could be required for the newly acquired edge rusher to be available against his new division rival.
Green Bay has made it to the playoffs during the majority of head coach Matt LaFleur’s tenure. Yet the results haven’t been good enough to keep him off the hot seat, which may have prompted the Packers’ front office to be aggressive with their trade to acquire and pay Parsons the league’s biggest contract for an edge rusher.
Since becoming head coach in 2019, LaFleur and the Packers have had four seasons with at least 11 wins. This includes last year’s 11-6 record, leading to a Wild Card loss against the Philadelphia Eagles.
In 2019, 2020, 2021, and 2023, Green Bay lost either in the NFC Divisional Round or the NFC Championship Game. Franchise quarterback Jordan Love didn’t look great overall last season. Adding one of the league’s preeminent defensive players could be a way for the Packers to win games by leaning on the talent now featured on that side of the line of scrimmage.
Green Bay has won four of its five Super Bowl appearances. The last time the Packers won the NFC Championship game was during Aaron Rodgers’ prime, beating the Pittsburgh Steelers in 2010.
It’s go time in Lambeau Field. Signing Parsons is indicative of an organization that is tired of burning out in the playoffs and ready to make the next step toward hoisting a fifth Lombardi Trophy.
