Wyoming senior safety Andrew Wingard was named a second-team preseason all-American selection by NFLDraftScout.com last week. The two-time all-Mountain West selection was one of four Group of Five players named to the first or second team, joining Houston defensive tackle Ed Oliver (first), Toledo punt returner Diante Johnson (second) and Memphis kick returner Tony Pollard (second).
Wingard was a member of the Jim Thorpe Award (best defensive back), Bronko Nagurski Award (best defensive player) and Chuck Bednarik Award (best defensive player) watch lists last year. Wingard was also on the watch list for the Jim Thorpe Award in 2016, when he was named a semifinalist.
