Women's basketball: Jill Barta plans to leave the program and bypass final season of eligibility

After leading Gonzaga to back-to-back NCAA tournament appearances, Jill Barta has opted to forgo her fifth year and return home to Fairfield, Montana.

“I’m going to be done at Gonzaga and not take my fifth year,” Barta told the Great Falls Tribune. “I’m looking forward to coming back to Montana.”

A redshirt junior, Barta averaged 18.8 points and 8.3 rebounds per game this season and earned WCC Player of the Year and the tournament's Most Outstanding Player.

She made the decision official when she signed a release from her scholarship on Thursday. Barta will graduate in May with a with a degree in Special Education and Early Childhood development.
