Whittaker dominates as GU survives late scare against Grand Canyon

On Thursday night, the Gonzaga University women’s basketball team took the court in the Kennel to take on Grand Canyon University (1-6), defeating GCU 62-58 in a closely contested battle.

Lauren Whittaker led the way with a dominant showing, posting a 24-point, 13-rebound double-double, her third double-double of the season.

The game got off to a sluggish start, with Grand Canyon heading into the first media timeout up 8-4. The Zags' offense picked up after the timeout, going on a quick 6-0 run to regain the lead. The first quarter ended with the Zags up 16-11.

The Zags let the Lopes back into the lead late in the first half amid a three-minute Zags scoring drought in which GU also committed five turnovers.
