KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Saturday afternoon was supposed to be a day for Donte Watkins and his family, celebrating his graduation from Missouri Western.
Instead, he laced up his shoes with more than 60 other rookies at the Kansas City Chiefs Training Facility to celebrate a stellar college career that earned him a shot at the pros.
“It was kind of a surreal feeling at first. Once you actually had to put the jersey on and put the equipment on, it's just down to business,” Watkins said. “Now you're just playing football.”
Watkins did more than play his college ball at the training camp site for the team that granted him a rookie minicamp tryout.
