Robin Knudtson heard the rumor in one of society’s great gossip incubators: a high school lunchroom.
The tip came from a nurse, who heard it from her son, who heard it from a source unknown, all before 7:45 a.m. At some point a veteran teacher and loyal Husker fan is compelled to investigate.
So Knudtson approached the athletic director in the cafeteria. Is it true, she said.

Wow, that got around quick, said Jason Williams, who’d heard the news only 30 minutes earlier.
