BLACKSBURG – There were times, early on this spring, when Ricky Walker would line up at his defensive tackle position and wait. And wait. And wait for the linebackers behind him to make the play calls.
Virginia Tech has a pair of inexperienced and unproven sophomores in Rayshard Ashby and Dylan Rivers taking over for Andrew Motuapuaka and Tremaine Edmunds heading into next football season. This spring, as much as anything else, has been about bringing them up to speed in the middle of the Hokies’ defense.
“Ashby and Dylan Rivers, man, those guys came along from Day 1,” Walker said this week, as the team prepped for Saturday’s annual spring game at Lane Stadium.
