USU’s Eberle one of 3 Lou Groza finalists

Dominik Eberle

There’s no question Dominik Eberle has done an outstanding job as Utah State’s place-kicker this season, and he was rewarded accordingly Monday afternoon.

That’s when Eberle was named one of three finalists for the 2017 Lou Groza Award, an honor presented annually to college football’s top place-kicker. The other two finalists are Utah’s Matt Gay and Auburn’s Daniel Carlson, who is now a three-time finalist.

Eberle is only the second player in program history to ever be selected as a finalist for a major national award. The other Aggie finalist was legendary defensive end Merlin Olsen, who ended up winning the Outland Trophy in 1961.
