JMU football head coach Mike Houston announced earlier today that redshirt senior running back Cardon Johnson has been granted a sixth year of eligibility from the NCAA after receiving a medical hardship waiver.
Johnson played in three games last season before injuring his right leg against Norfolk State in September. Before the injury, Johnson had 347 rushing yards on just 37 carries with three touchdowns. He exploded onto the scene in the season opener against ECU, where he ran for a career-high 265 yards on 17 carries.
“We were confident the waiver was going to go through, so we’ve been planning to have Cardon back,” Houston said in a joint statement with JMU athletics.
