ORLANDO, Fla. -- NFL commissioner Roger Goodell is confident that the New Orleans Saints are in good hands with Gayle Benson taking over as owner of the team.
He made the following statement during a news conference on Wednesday about the passing of Tom Benson and his wife, Gayle, taking over:
"Tom was very important to the league. We mentioned this at the start of the meetings Sunday night, he was a very active owner in this league. He loved the league, he love the Saints and he loved the New Orleans people and the fans. He gave us so much at the league level.
