OU football notebook: Riley says newcomers 'didn't look like high school players'

Like Opening Day in baseball, the first morning of a college football spring practice is filled with nothing but hope.

Austin Kendall and Kyler Murray will battle to become OU’s next starting quarterback. Other position battles are everywhere.

But also among the most interesting focuses are the nine newest Sooners, found in the form of OU’s early enrollees.

Sooners coach Lincoln Riley seemed encouraged with what he saw despite limited action Saturday. And one OU freshman already made a big play.

“I thought all of those guys looked like they belonged,” Riley said. “They didn’t look like high school players out there.
