Nebraska offensive lineman Michael Decker announced Saturday he has decided to retire from playing football.
Decker, in a Twitter post, said he's evaluated his future goals over the last six months and decided he "can no longer (accommodate) football's commitments." He thanked Mike Riley, Scott Frost, Mike Cavanaugh and Greg Austin — in addition to fans, teammates, other coaches and athletic department support staff.
"It was finally time to see that these aspirations outweighed the lacking desire to continue playing the game," Decker wrote. "Which, given the team's goals, would only hurt them by my participation."
Decker, an Omaha North graduate, started five games at center as a sophomore last season.
