Central Florida’s claim to a national championship continues to trigger Power Five conference coaches and athletic directors, according to a USA Today article.
UCF finished 13-0 last season, beating Auburn in the Peach Bowl. Auburn was the only team to beat College Football Playoff national champion Alabama, which did not win its league or division.
After winning the Peach Bowl, UCF Athletic Director Danny White has promoted his team as a national champion. The USA Today story even mentions that teams have often done this in the past — Iowa claims one off an 8-1-1 season in 1958, since only 15 of the 16 selectors of a mythical national title picked 11-0 LSU.
