Jeremy Pruitt says Vols’ first scrimmage filled with mistakes

KNOXVILLE — Jeremy Pruitt seemed pleased with the effort he saw from his Tennessee players Sunday during their first fall scrimmage, but that appeared to be the extent of the positive aspects.

As Pruitt described an expose’ of folly during the 116 plays the Vols ran on Sunday, it became clear that they have a long way to go before they’re ready for the season opener against West Virginia on Sept. 1.

The areas of concern, the first-year coach said, included undisciplined penalties, interceptions, pass protection, decision-making by the quarterbacks, blocking by the wide receivers and third down conversion.
