By my rough count, I’ve covered four regular-season games and one playoff game involving the Dallas Cowboys in my career. They were 1-4 in those contests, and the playoff loss was a doozy — a 34-3 thrashing at the hands of the Minnesota Vikings for the right to go to the NFC championship game.
Another year, another painful end of the season for TE Jason Witten and the Cowboys. And another locker room where Witten stood up and faced the fire that some of his teammates over the years occasionally opted not to.
Witten, who is retiring and joining ESPN's "Monday Night Football" broadcast team, will walk away from his playing career with the clear benchmarks needed to waltz into the Pro Football Hall of Fame five years from now.
