The Jaguars have informed wide receiver Allen Robinson that he will not receive the franchise tag, which is due at 3 p.m. today.
That will make the four-year veteran the consensus top pass catcher available when the “legal tampering” period of free agency begins Monday, even though he suffered a torn ACL in the 2017 season opener and missed the remainder of the season.
The tag would have paid Robinson $15.982 million in 2018, the average of the top five wide receiver contracts. Free agency officially begins at 3 p.m. March 14.
The Bears, desperate to add an established wide receiver, and devoid of a WR1, are one of several teams expected to show interest in the 6-foot-3, 220-pound Robinson.
