Mickey Loomis and Dennis Lauscha couldn’t find the words.
The question was simple and direct: What did Tom Benson mean to you and your life? Generating an answer, however, was difficult. The reply both men wanted to give was “everything,” which really would have sufficed, but they wanted to provide more nuance, more meaning.
“Oh, man, we could be here all day,” Lauscha, the president of the Saints and Pelicans, said before going on to explain that Benson took a chance on him when many others wouldn’t have.
Loomis started out the same way and then found his groove, hitting on many of the same themes.
