Entering Saturday’s contest against San Francisco, Gonzaga University volleyball had dropped 40 consecutive conference matchups, a streak dating back to 2022 that included two full winless conference slates. For players and faculty members who have been around the program since then, it had to have felt like an eternity.
That mammoth mark came to an end in thrilling fashion, as the Zags (8-5, 1-1 WCC) plucked a nail-biting, five-set victory from the jaws of defeat against the Dons (2-10, 0-2 WCC) in the Martin Centre.
“This is the world to me — it really just solidifies everything that we’ve been through as a team,” said senior outside hitter Fallon Thompson, who hadn’t won a conference game since her freshman season.
