With the stands at Steve Hertz Field full of Gonzaga University families for move-out weekend, fans were treated to an unlikely comeback and dramatic walk-off win as GU baseball erased a six-run deficit to claim a 9-8 victory over rival Saint Mary’s.
While an error-filled day and early dominance from the Gaels made most of the game a hard watch for GU fans, the night still ended in a Gatorade shower for the Zags. Josh Hankins went 5-for-6 with four RBIs, Mikey Bell batted 3-for-5 and Sam Stem smashed a homer for the second-straight game as the Zags (17 hits) and Gaels (12 hits) combined for 29 hits in an offensively prolific opening contest.
