Fuente makes it official, naming Josh Jackson as Virginia Tech's starting QB again

BLACKSBURG – To no one’s surprise, Virginia Tech football coach Justin Fuente named sophomore Josh Jackson the team’s starting quarterback for the upcoming season on Thursday.

Jackson, who started all 13 games last year as a redshirt freshman, competed in the spring with redshirt freshman Hendon Hooker and junior Ryan Willis. This fall, true freshman Quincy Patterson entered the mix.

Still, Jackson — who led the Hokies to a 9-4 record last season — was widely expected to retain the job.

“Josh, barring any unforeseen circumstances, he’s the starter,” Fuente said. “… We divvied up reps and gave everybody an opportunity and we still feel like Josh is the best one for us.
