Donkers stays hot, leads GU volleyball past EWU in five-set thriller

After losing to Montana on Thursday, Gonzaga University’s volleyball team (7-4) made the short drive to Cheney to take on Eastern Washington (2-10) on Saturday, bouncing back and returning to Spokane with a five-set win.

The day belonged to outside hitter Sjakkie Donkers, who accounted for 25 kills — the most by a Zag since 2021. She sealed the match in the fifth set with two aces that shifted the momentum in favor of the Zags.

EWU came out strong in the first set, using its defense to stifle GU’s attack. Alyssa Radke was a problem for GU early on, tallying up four solo blocks in the set.
