In Gonzaga's 1-0 shutout victory over West Coast Conference foe Pepperdine on Friday, Daniel Bies struck out 13 batters in eight innings of work while surrendering just three hits. The 13 strikeouts were a career high, besting his previous best of eight set earlier this season, and the performance earned him WCC Pitcher of the Week, the league announced on Monday.
Through five starts this season, the redshirt junior has registered a 3-1 record, a 2.25 earned run average and 39 strikeouts in 36 innings of work. He's gone at least six innings in every appearance and has posted seven-plus strikeouts in four outings.
