Gonzaga starting pitcher Alek Jacob was named Rawlings West Coast Conference Pitcher of the Week on Monday. The freshman went 7 2/3 innings, allowed zero runs on three hits and rung up five strikeouts in a 3-0 shutout against Saint Mary's on Friday.
Through six starts, Jacob is 2-3 with a 4.05 earned run average and 37 strikeouts in 40 innings of work.
The combined shutout marks three this year for the Zags, who sit at 13-13 on the season and 4-5 in WCC play. They'll take on the Portland Pilots in a three-game series on Friday, Saturday and Sunday at Patterson Baseball Complex.
