A lot of eyes will be on 15-year-old Cole Hammer this week at the U.S. Open. The Houston native and University of Texas commit is the third youngest competitor in championship history. His earliest U.S. Open memory dates to 2008 and he’s not even old enough to have his driver’s license.
Among those keeping tabs on the teenager: Andy Zhang.
Three years ago, Zhang set a U.S. Open record when he teed it up at the 2012 U.S. Open at Olympic Club at the age of 14 years, 6 months. While he joked that he’s glad Hammer didn’t break his record, Zhang said he will be rooting for his fellow teenager this week.
