WGC-Dell Match Play scheduling beneficial to Mickelson in Masters prep

AUSTIN, Texas — It is a formula that Phil Mickelson has favored, though he doesn’t own a copyright to it. Others are welcomed to partake — and some of them definitely are doing so.

Rickie Fowler, for one. Jimmy Walker, for another.

It’s the mindset to make the Masters the third of three straight tournaments and Lefty has been doing it for years. Hard to argue with his philosophy since he’s slipped into a green jacket three times and once, in 2006, it came on the heels of a win at the BellSouth Classic.

So it’s with that in mind that Mickelson was asked about his first appearance in the WGC-Dell Match Play since 2011.
